Ohio University has agreed to pay $82,500 to a West Virginia man who fell at Templeton-Blackburn Alumni Memorial Auditorium last year.
The payment is part of a settlement agreement the university reached in an Ohio Court of Claims case filed by Russel Lyon of Huntington.
In the lawsuit, Lyon said that he was at Memorial Auditorium for a production of “The Drowsy Chaperone,” but left his seat in the auditorium before the play had begun, but after the lights had been darkened. As he was attempting to leave, he tripped on the auditorium staircase “due to poor lighting” and fell down 10 stairs, causing him injury, according to the lawsuit.
